The first time I was offered a Pisco based cocktail with a creamy layer of egg white on it, I didn’t react enthusiastically. Egg in a cocktail? The idea wasn’t very appealing. But then I tasted it and ever since it has been my desire to shake up a cocktail with a fizzy and creamy texture. With Easter around the corner, there was absolutely no excuse left to not try making just that! As a new Bostonian (close to a year soon) I had to make the Boston Sour.
Here’s my take on the Boston Sour
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Serving : 1 glass
Ingredients: per glass
50 ml Irish Whiskey (~ 2 oz, you can use any whiskey, scotch or bourbon.)
2 tbsp lime juice (~ 29 ml / ~ 0.9 oz)
1 tbsp honey (~ 17.7 ml / 0.6 oz)
1 egg white,
1 strawberry (muddled),
4-5 ice cubes.
Optional : This one packs a punch. Add some club soda if this is too strong. Or alternatively use 1/2 the liquor.
Method:
You’ll need a shaker, either a Boston Shaker or a Cobbler. Pictured below is a cobbler shaker.
Measure all the ingredients and keep them ready.
Crack an egg and separate the egg white. Transfer to the shaker. To this add all ingredients except ice. Shake, shake, shake!
Open the shaker and add ice. Give it another shake.
Muddle a strawberry or two.
Add this to the glass that you’ll be using and pour your thoroughly shaken Boston Sour and enjoy.
This one is a strong cocktail. If you find it’s too much, then dilute with a bit of club soda.
Pair this with some easy to name Snacks from the blog for a relaxed night in or to treat friends.
