If I had to list all the reasons for enjoying cooking, the top few would be;
Its relaxing,
Opens the mind and palette to new cuisines and cultures,
It means working with fresh ingredients and spices.
But the flip side is that like any hobby there are tools to keep and maintain. This post is about an easy, do-it-yourself routine for getting the shine back in wooden serving bowls.

These bowls are my go to for finger snacks. And if the picture above is any indication, they can get quite weathered.

To get these bowls back in to commission all one needs are some paper towels and cooking oil- any oil in your kitchen will suffice. Another option is to use a mixture of beeswax and mineral oil.

Before you start, clean the bowls and make sure they are dry. Wooden bowls can be washed with mild soap and water. But drying properly is crucial before seasoning.
Then, put a few drops of oil in the bowls. Scrub the oil into the wood, covering all aspects of the utensil. Wipe off excess oil with a paper towel or kitchen towel.

Within moments the dull wood will start looking bright and shiny.
Oil works as a sealant and prevents moisture from affecting the wood in everyday use.

I tend to season the bowl after 2 to 3 washes.
In 4 easy steps that take only about 10 minutes from start to finish, wooden serving bowls are back to their elegant shiny selves.

This makes me want to take out the wooden items and utensils and start scrubbing them! 😀 Great post!
